How long is a class? Are there pre-set session lengths?
Each class is 1.5 hours in length. Each month we work with a different medium or topic, and each lesson plan is tailored to the individual student and his or her experience and talent level. Older or returning students are challenged to improve their skills, and express themselves to their fullest.
No- there is no long term commitment needed, enrollment is on a month-to-month basis, which allows for students to play a sport, or be part of other school activities.
How often do classes meet? Are supplies included?
Classes meet weekly and at the same time during the duration of the school year. Supplies are not included, upon receipt of your deposit a supply list will be e-mailed to you. Be sure to have all necessary supplies by the first day of classes. Some months we will work with a medium that requires an additional supply fee be paid to help defray the cost of materials that all the students will share. We have found that sharing the cost of one-time use, expensive supplies among all the students is better than asking each student to spend a lot more money. This additional fee is usually $10-15 per student for that month's art activity, and typically occurs in November and/or February.

Just where is StART HERE Studio located?

The front of our building!
We are located at 250 North Goodman Street, in Studio 3D on the third floor. Most people know the building as "the old Fabric and Findings building", or more recently as the "Anderson Alley Artists"building. To enter the artists' studios you have to park behind the building, and walk into the alley between our building and Village Gate. Look for the yellow doors - our entrance is the East door, or door B.
What if I miss a lesson?

Look for the 'ancient artist' on the third floor.
If you miss a lesson due to illness, medical or dental appointment or family emergency you will receive a make-up lesson coupon that must be used within 30 days. Scheduling of a make-up lesson is the student's responsibility. Missing a lesson because you forgot is not a legitimate reason, sorry.
What about bad weather?
In the event the studio has to close due to bad weather we will call you to arrange a make-up lesson. Studio closings will be posted on YNEWS and WHAM.
You can also call the studio phone number and listen to the out going voice mail message for information if there is a closing due to bad weather.

A brief history of StART HERE Studio

A project where students describe themselves through sculpture.
Created in 2002, Start Here Studio called the village of Brockport its home for five successful years. Each school year ended with our Annual Student Art Show (see our student gallery pages for some pictures). During the summer we held our "Summer Fun Art Camp" and took the art making on the road- with visiting artist programs held from Buffalo to Rochester. We began to out grow our studio space in 2006 and as a result we had to move.
In October 2007 Start Here Studio opened at its new location at 250 North Goodman Street (Studio 3D) in Rochester, NY. Start Here Studio is now a fixture in the “Neighborhood of the Arts”. Our new location has enabled us to expand our mission with a larger studio, more classes, and put us in a community of fellow artists.
As of August 2011, StART HERE Studio has worked with over 4000 students through workshops, weekly classes, and visiting artist programs held all over New York State.
We plan on continuing to bring more art to more people of all ages for 2011-12!
